First Car.

  Renault Clio
Hey Guys,

My name is Jake and i'm 16. 17 on the 26th of May. I have a Renault Clio Authentique 2003 1.2 in Blue. Which is my first car.

I wasn't sure whether to sign up, as the site is called Clio Sport and my Clio isn't a Sport. Basically i bought it 3rd hand, 2 previous female drivers and 35k miles on the clock. It is in mint condition. I want to hook up a booming sound system because at the moment i only have a stock cassette player to which i don't know the security code :/.

So hopefully i can learn about hooking up my own sound system from the forums and if i'm barking up the wrong tree just tell me :D

Heres a pic of my car, i also want to get rid of these horrible hub caps and get a set of alloys.

Thanks.

Welcome aboard Jake.. Where you from dude ?

Car looks clean ! Keep it between the ditches ;-)

Regarding the 'booming' stereo .. you'll rattle the car to bits (it's French!!), and then probably have it all stolen as anyone within a half a mile will hear you coming.

Best bet IMO is to put something like an Alpine head unit (HU) in the dash, and run an active sub in the boot .. I had this on my old Clio and it sounded great as I could turn the bass off to the front speakers.

Being heard by everyone in the same county is sooooo 1994 (and you weren't even born then haha) !

Welcome mate.

As said Alpine headunit (I'll have an iPod & Bluetooth one available soon ;) ) and an active sub in the boot for the "boom" and upgrade the front components (tweeter and midrange on each side designed to work together) and it'll sound great.

Aahhh.. Kernow. Lovely part of the world.

Uprating the fronts is a mission but probably worth it. You'll have to amp them though, which is more wires and more effort !

Do a little homework.. don't buy a budget HU, make sure it has HPF/LPF capabilities. I'm a complete audiophile (I've got ~£800 of amp/floorstanders just to watch Sky FFS haha!) and I was more than happy with the cheap (Halfords) Fli 12" active sub in the boot, and the standard crap Renault speakers upfront doing everything 200Hz and above from my Alpine HU :)

Also guys, any tips on what alloys i should be looking at. ATM i think i got 13" hub caps. I reckon in black they would look best.

Ask your insurance company how much more you'll pay in addition to your presumably hilarious price if you stick some alloys on there ;)

Pretty sure they'll be 14 or 15" steel wheels.

Most people will either tell you do not bother wasting your time and money as it's your first car and it'll more than likely end up in a hedge, or tell you to do whatever you want as it's your own car.

IMO, don't bother .. maybe if you can find a set of OEM 15's which basically look identical to those hubcaps... Other than that, look around on here and see what other people are using. You'll have to lower it though, or it will look daft in anything other than a standard 15 inch Renault 5-spoke. Again, insurance rape will follow......

Good luck !

Looks nice a nice car you have there :)

In regards to the stereo, you can do it fair on a decent budget aslong as you keep an eye out for some sales/deals.

Ive spent £250ish on my sound system and its pretty decent really, even sounds good at high volumes.

Sony xplod headunit with aux, USB, bluetooth and 3 pre-outs £80 in the for sale section on here
15" Audiobahn Sub + FLI 900s amp £50 from someone local
FLI front door speakers £40(ish) at halfords in a sale
Mutant 4 channel amp £80 on sale at halfords

Got a set of 6x9's in the parcel shelf too but they were given to me :rasp: the sub being so massive does take up most of the boot however, is very very heavy and also rattles everything in the car which has results in some minor trim problems.

If you look for some OEM style alloys id stick them on the car, less risk with insurance then as you can just explain you thought they were standard with them being renault ones, ive told mine about the alloys and they didnt up the price because their OEM, their just not covered for replacement if I crash.
