When I passed my tese my mum had a G reg micra. Within a year I somehow talked her into a 106 xsi. That was great fun, but I got well beaten by a Renault 5 GTT so...Did have a photo of it

Me and my brother had sporty Escort's too back in the day. I had a mk6 Escort 1.8 Si which was kinda like the insurance-friendly version. My brother had two RS2000's, one 2wd and one 4x4. His 2wd was in that lovely aubergine colour.First hot hatch was probably this Escort S technically, though it wasn't that hot in reality, as it was just a 1.6 EFI CVH with about 105bhp. It was my third car, as I had a couple of four door saloon Escorts before that. Only a handful of them left now I would have thought. They were pretty unusual when I had this one about 15 years ago. Mine had been fitted with loads of RS2000 bits though, so didn't look very standard. It was a total shed sadly, so was sold and eventually scrapped.

The first one that would be considered a 'proper' hot hatch would be my first RS2000, back in the day you could buy a running one for about £1k, before they suddenly became worth £5k Think this was about 10 years ago. Had loads of Escorts/Orions around this time, in various states of modification.

Current hot hatch is a Clio 197. Had loads in between though, including a 2.0-litre Zetec converted Escort, another three RS2000s, an Escort Si, Mondeo ST220, 172 Cup, Golf R and Meg 265

I am a huge hot hatch fan I must say. They're the perfect all-rounder.
Loved the rs when they came out.
I remember the reputation. Nail it and into the nearest hedge you go. Most were fine but some had issues with torque steer.
I was looking at buying a mk1 RS around 2008 but the road tax was way out of acceptability for a yorkshireman. Obviously that was before values shot up. Yeah some self flagellation was in order🤣.First was mk1 focus rs - 21years old (sadly no pics I have to hand) so default pic.

Current is 182 trophy - 32 years old now..

I did have an Si Briefly. I was so into Escorts for years, with the MK5 Register, RS2000 club etc. Was looking at MK5/6 Escorts recently. Good ones don't look very common now, and prices are creeping up. Would still love one with a turbo Zetec in it.
I'd love to drive one. I bet most of the stuff about torque steer was journalistic crap lol
Far too long...! It’s very far down the list of jobs though I’m afraid. How long you had the 5? You must get it done Sash!!
Always wanted one back in the day, When they were decent I could never afford the insurance when I could afford to insure one they were all shite😫
