Fitted my Uprated Dog Bone Mount Bushes

i know their is mixed reviews and opinions on these due to the fact that they might put extra strain on the other mounts but after using one on my old 1.2 16v for 20k miles as soon as my 172 mount went i thought id get another set.

so fitted them today and i still stand by the statement that this is one of the best mods you can do to a clio (in my opinion of course), its so much easyer to go down through the box when approaching a corner (granted my mount was on its way out before!) and it makes driving in the wet so much better, i used to hate having to go for a tight gap at a wet roundabout because if the tyres let go you got loads of axel tramp but now it just lets the wheels spin freely so you can ease the throttle a bit to get grip and its not a problem (always paranoid i break a cv joint during axel tramp like i did in my old 1.2!)

but overall very impressed :)

im not saying top mounts wont wear out quicker but its not like their going to fail overnight! plus they dont cost that much anyway so its worth it for the benefits of the more solid lower mount id say

Got to agree, sure the feel of the thing is better if you can live with the idle vibration but after ovalling the hole on the gearbox on the 1.6 never again.

The better option is to change the std mount for std annually.

(depending on mileage)

the mrk2 mount has one vertical hole and one horizontal hole

mrk1 has two horizontal holes

no, remove that bracket on your gearbox (no 17)

then the mk2 dogbone fits on, there's a threaded hole on the underside of the box

For the hastle plus the damage plus there poor design its not worth it IMO.
What about if you uprate ALL the bushes/mounts?
Then you'dd have bigger problems over time. big expensive parts failing instead

Glad you like it but I don't recomend it.

i need one for mine, but they only do a mrk2 fixing

You can uprate the mk1 mount various ways, I tried one that had apparently been done by Mark Fish at somepoint. It was an aftermarket mount so different to look at than the standard renault affair, but a metal shim was pressed in down beside the rubber bush stiffening it up.

Here's a pic in the for sale thread...

wouldnt bother with uprating all engine mounts, the vibration would be too anoying to live with on a road car tbh.

replacing it with a standard mount anually is an option but even with a brand new mount i still didnt like it, although its an option if you dont want the vibration at idle.

have to say i dissagree with the comment about all things powerflex being bad, ok theres the argument about the ammount of money etc that was put into the standard car but that doesnt mean its always the best option for everyone, i had powerflex bushes on my ARB and bottom arms on my 1.2 16v and loved them although they did sqeek quite bad and were a c**t to fit!

think a new standard mount is arround the £30-£35 mark?

the polly bushes are £50 i think i payed, but thats just the bushes you still need the mount (not a problem on a 172, but for a 1.2 you need to buy the 172 mount too)
