Fitting a new cat to a 172 yourself..easy??

  Lots of Alfas
My cat on my 172mk1 is well and truly buggered now and the cat to exhaust gasket is blowing. If I buy a new one from Renault or the sports cat from K-tec is it fairly straight forward to fit. Ive had a look and where it joins the manifold looks like a right b**ch to get to. Another thing that could be a problem is the very rusty bolts. Has anyone done this themselves??

I've just had a new manifold to cat gasket set on and i was told by two mechanics that looked at it that it was a sod of a job because it's difficult to get more than one hand up to tighten the bolts.

It's harder on the ph1 172 isn't it?

Has anyone used these:

Cat for a clio 172 is £144.42!!
Sports cat for a 172 is £243.13 (and its guaranteed for 2 years)

Renault want about £300++
The K-tec sports cat is £311

Their prices are exc vat and delivery though, once you add those it's approx £296, sports cat from KTec all in is £323, so it's still a few quid cheaper :)

Put the car over a pit today, the bolts holding the cat to the exhaust are going to have to be hacksawed/drilled off and as for the other end will find that out when I try to fit it. They are rusty too but Ive got a socket just the right size to get at the nuts and a spanner just right for bolt.

Think im going to go for the k-tec sports, has anyone got this with a standard Renault exhaust, comments??
