Fitting Fog lamps (MK2 PH1)

Where on the wiring loom do I attach the fog lamp loom from the new 172 bumper I fitted my car has never had fogs on so not sure if i need to splice the loom or not? Or if there is a blank cap over a connector

Cheers

If your car doesnt have fogs then it most likely wont have the loom to connect the fog lights up to. You will have to make a relay and a separate switch to get them to work. Seems like a pain in the ass which is why ive not bothered.

You can hard wire them, straight to the battery, I did this and had a separate switch in the panel where the headlight adjustment is.

You can search posts by me regarding to fog lights and you'll find it eventually, I've explained it in full somewhere.

Hi mate, I know I've posted a few times and explained exactly how I did it, but I can't seem to remember off the cuff now.

There was no relay used, just three wires I, and an inline fuse. I'm searching my old posts now for you, hopefully jog my memory.

Personally my switch only lit up when you put it on, but if you were that worried about MOT, just get a switch that is illuminated 100% of the time. (or you could use an illumination live off of the electric window switches (on the inside of the car side as opposed to in the door). That's easy enough to find with a tester.

Right, I'm still looking but I think you need the following....

Battery connection/add on piece (much like you get with a sub)
In line 15amp fuse (halfords, about 3£)
Some decentish wire
Suitably sized spade connectors
The connecting loom for the two fogs (this is just a wire that goes between the fogs an has a wire for a supply coming off of it)

Right, they're wired as following....

Any earthing point on the car

^..........>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>switch>>inline fuse>>battery
^.........^ (these aren't joined I just couldn't space them out without the dots)

Fog light -----> Connecting Loom ------> Fog light

So basically the switch just acts as a standard breaker for the live to the lights, sorted.

Does that make sense? I can draw it up if need be?

Right I see matey thanks very much for that :) I have the sport 172 bumper fitted and that came with the fog loom built in so that will be simple enough. When I get some money together ill get some fogs and get them fitted.

I'm 99% sure I have one fog and the connecting loom in my garage mate if you want to cover postage?

If you get stuck, don't hesitate to drop me a PM.
