fitting speakers :-(

  Clio 172 Cup

just got some JBL gto 526es that fit directly into the front speaker slots.

To fit them i simply connected the original wire in the door to the wires supplied with the speakers, and connected the wires up to the speakers. They seem to work fine, but im worried because the JBL speakers have a large wire connector and a small wire connector on them ( one is fatter than the other), and i was wondering whether the wires already in the door are specific to either the larger connector, or the smaller one, or does it not matter at all?

This is a bit confusing, ill make it simple:

e.g. does the white wire in door = larger JBL speaker connector, pink wire in door = small JBL speaker connector

Anyone know anything about this?

there should be a + and - for both speaker and wires , u just gotta try them both ways until u get the best sound , thats if the wires and speakers are not marked.

i would of guessed that the pink wire connects to the + terminal on the speaker , probly the big connector , not 100% sure tho mate.

yeah i know its a bit tricky. Its not too difficult to try them both ways cos ive used those solderless things that just grip to the wire, so i can just swap em round no probs. But sometimes its tricky to tell whcih sound is best aint it?

the big one will be +ve and the small one is -ve. the big one supplies the power, whereas your little one just earths the speaker. what size are the speakers? get them from ripspeed?

Have you cut them yet? The wire next to the clip on the connector is the +ve. I had the same problem when putting my JBL 526s in.

oh crap, yeah i have cut em. Can anyone be soooooooooooo kind and look for me, and tell me what colour that wire is? Id really really appreciate it.

Have you still got the connectors? You could look at the colour of the wire going into the side next to the clip.

The wire colour varies back and front, and between models, so your best bet is trying to work it out from the connectors.....if you still have them!!!!

yeah i still have em. when you say the clip, you mean the thing you press to release the connector. Anyway if so, ive worked it out from that, yellow/purple(a1) = + and purple/pink(a2) = -

cheers!!!

Theres no need to worry about which is positive and which is negative. They can be connected either way. All you DO have to worry about is getting them both connected THE SAME way, or youll get cancellation.

So, if you connect pink to the big spade plug on one side, connect it the same on the other side. It really doesnt matter which is which - it will be exactly the same (as far as your ears are concerned.

Does one have a stripe running along its length, the other just plain?

Otherwise, buy a cheap-o multimeter. Always handy for doing installs (especially if it has a continuity tester as well). :)
