Fitting springs..

How much can I expect to pay just for fitting? Plan on getting mine fit over next couple days so will be trying somewhere local but don't want to over pay. Cheers.

I'd guess the £140 jam sport want is way too much then lol.

Yeah I'd do it myself maybe if I even had a set of basic tools, wouldn't want to f**k it up either .

That's pretty steep :O!

The rears are easy as they are separate to the dampeners, it's the fronts that are a Cnut, my top mount bolts were completely seized so a garage trip was inevitable.

There's a really good guide, just google "how to fit lowering springs on a clio" in google - can't remember the name of the person who made the guide though...

If you plan on doing it yourself, start spraying the bolts you need to remove with WD40 a few days prior to make them easy to remove :) good luck!

If that's steep then Northampton Motorsport are even worse at £180!! lol.

Cheers for the help mate I'll have a look for the guide.

In most cases, by the time it's aligned properly it's an easy two hours.

I'd expect to pay £100-120.

Take it to a local independent - it's not a difficult job.

You could even get it a bit cheaper by doing the rears yourself - it's a half hour job to get the rear on axle stands, get a jack under the rear beam, unbolt the shocks, drop the rear beam, swap springs and reassemble.

Yeah I'll ring round a few.

Yeah the chap above said the same all I have is 1 jack and a crap old socket set so would need to buy more kit depends if I can get it done cheap enough to keep me happy lol.

Every so often Halfords put their 'do everything' toolkit from £200 down to £100. It's great value and has almost everything you could need for basic tasks - definitely a worth while investment.

I bought one 4 or 5 years ago because i was fed up of my tools being a mismatch of 50 years of family acquired stuff. The only annoying thing is that most of the sockets are 12 sided - but it's not a huge issue.

I have enough tools, trolley jack and axle stands if you're close to Lutterworth?

Cheers mate it's much appreciated but I would rather leave it in the hands of a garage.

Yeah I nearly bought the socket set a while ago lol for now as above I think I'll leave it hands of a garage.

the worst bit about doing these on a driveway it the front shock topmount nut. had to buy an impact gun to get it off

Only an hour and 20 mins away so not far at all really just on M1 then onto M25. You far from M25? Will see what prices I get ringing round today and will let you know what the crack is. Cheers for offering mate that's a good offer there :)

I've never had an issue slacking the topmount nut - did you try slacking it off before you jack the car off?

Have agreed with vecbtb to do it now as he has very kindly offered to do it for me tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help chaps and also thank you to budgie for the offer also :) CS to the rescue!!

I know they do mate I appreciate that. I would have been happy to pay up to £100 but not £160+

3 Hours labour Northampton Motorsport said just to fit springs seemed like quite a while to me.

Just have the fronts done, and have anyone do the rears. Like, anyone.

It's the alignment that'll cost you, but even kwikfit can do that for about £40.

I got vecbtb doing them tomorrow anyway now so I'm sorted.

Alignment I'll do in a few weeks after mot in case anything like ball joints need changing.

I really want to try the Cooksports.

I have Sportlines at the moment and they seem just that little bit too high.

£45 here... wait, no - price is now £120 because NHMS is £180 lol

Haha sorted now mate didn't think you would get me in with 1 or 2 days notice tbh.

£180 does seem fairly expensive but then I guess its quite a big company with quite a few overheads. Probably just didn't want to work on a clio so gave me a silly price lol.

I must also say everyone has been very helpful in this thread so thank you very much it's much appreciated.

Its certainly pretty surprising prices compared to some of the dealers on here, goes to show what they 'could' get away with.
