Fixed Lens - 35mm or 50mm?

I've decided I feel I've got to grips enough with my D50 and 18-55 that I want another lens or two.

I'm probably going to go for a Nikon 55-300mm Zoom lens, and also fancy a fixed lens.

I can see the 35mm is cheaper - but does the 50mm offer more versatility/is it worth adding to my kit over the 35mm?

Nikon 35 is very highly rated and the focal length will be more usable than a 50 on a crop sensor

I have the 35mm Nikon f1.8 and I love it! It's a lot more versatile than the 50mm. Cracking lens for the money!

I decided to go for the 50mm for my first fixed and I absolutely love the thing. Use it all the time.
Not tried a 35mm equivalent yet though
