Fixing Aircon? (Pic Inside)

Basically, I need to know what I need to change.

Went to qwikfit in the hope of having my aircon topped up today, only to find it had a leak, before putting dye through, to check where the leak was, the bloke and I had a quick feel around the engine to see if we could locate it.

We did.

Air was pissing out from under here:

He said something about it being the compressor and being big £££ to change?

Is he correct in saying its the compressor, and how much am I looking at second hand and fitting myself?

Cheers.

Was it the bit by the radiator? That'll be the condensor, or the bit bolted to the engine? That'll be the compressor.

Condensor then I believe as it was pissing out air from where I showed above, which is right by the rad yes?

Going to cost me a small fortune yes?

Easy to change if I can get hold of one myself?

Yeh easy enough to fit bumper off job etc. Should be able to get a decent 2nd hand one for not a great deal of monies.

Oh for the love of.........

Shall I clear the drive and get the tools out...?

Or shall we just launch it into that stream outside then go to the pub ?

I'm thinking the second one tbh mate, if I didn't want to move out so bad I'd just buy something new/not french.

Was going to call you tonight actually and see if you fancied changing my top mounts with me as I now have all the bolts etc, only as I don't have all the tools needed to do it myself :(

Now I guess it'll have to wait, damn being ill :(

Quick bump on this, does anyone know off hand how the condenser is connected?

i.e is it bolted to the surrounding pipe work or is it all one piece so am I going to have to cut the existing off and have it braised?

Try josh, cliospares he will most likely have one on the shelf and offers warranty on all his parts.

going from experience they are usually nuts on the end of the hoses which threads onto the rad/compressor very similar to brake flexi pipe set ups

Don't buy a second hand one that been left open to the elements,
Try and see it still fitted to the car.
Don't want moisture in it , moisture in a/c = poor cooling ,

All systems are vaccumed etc before filling anyways aren't they mate? Not really much chance of finding one on a car, this one is coming from a decent breakers with a good rep, and if it makes you happy, I'll keep it in my airing cupboard for a week ;)
