fk's siezed!

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
hiya guys i bought a set of second hand fk's and got rentech to fit them. i dint realise but the front adjustors are siezed so i cant alter the ride height at the front!

they are fitted now so ive just soaked them in wd40, what else can i do guys????:(

my gaz ones seemed to be fine for 2 years, these fk ones were much more expensive so i wouldnt have thought it!

the fks are about 8-9months old

Hi Rik,

Copious amounts of WD40 should do it really, rebuilding of coilovers would be the dampers so not really relevant.

At the end of the day it is down to road crap and surface rust. I'd get a pressure washer on it. Having not fitted the suspension myself i can't really help...

Why did you go to Rentech out of interest, aren't they way down south?

ive soaked them in wd40 but it doesnt look too good to be honest.

im at reading 5 days a week coz of uni so rentech isnt too far from there!

just ordered some plusgas (lubricating oil) its ment to be powerful stuff, anyone recommend heating the adjusters?

Take the shocker / spring off - if it doesnt free off with lubricant ( try plusgas ) or the C spanner get a very fine hack saw and cut the ring at the top and the bottom or grind the rings off ( be careful ) and order up some new ones from Demon tweeks.

I always wrapped my FK threads with the Denso tape - works a treat

ah shite more problems, if worst comes to worst would it be ok if i grinded off one of the rings??

why do fk's even have 2 rings??

The seat would move up and down the thread. And you'd have developed continously variable ride height. ie not good.

Front adjusters are not seized mate, you just need the correct spanners to undo them. They move fine once you have unlocked them.
Its the rear height adjusters that are seized due to damaged thread.

yeah my rear left ones were properly jammed as well. only way i got them to move was boiling water and a BIG hammer lol Sorted

generally i used a old wire brush on the front to get all the crap out of the threads but tbh i havent bothered doing it for a while as im happy with the ride height so its gonna be a pain when i need to adjust them again

yh i done the same to mine also.
my mates thought i was nuts lol.
also id like to add WD40 is not a very good lubricant!!!
esp on these parts! it disperses any lube which may in some cases make it worse!:nono:

On the front the lower ring is the locking ring. It needs to be wound down. Before attempting to loosen, make sure you do it in the right direction. As has already been stated, they are probably locked together and not seized.

yup they have been locked together, i was attempting to wind the lower one down by turning it anticlockwise, is this the correct procedure of unlocking them??

Oil Filter ratchet tool thingy works well. Like an adjustable C spanner.

Or big screwdriver and big hammer. And some PlusGas.
