Flashing check engine light. Intermittent

Hey guys wonder if anyone can help? I have an intermittent flashing check engine light. comes on for a couple of mins and goes off again. Also have a possibly separate / unrelated issue of when left for a day it won’t start first time but always starts immediately second time.

Local garage can’t seem to fine a code reader that works to read the fault and want me to take it to a specialist. They and I think it’s running ok but not sure about driving it an hour to AW Motorworks in Essex as it is. If he can fit me in.

Any help would be really appreciated

Flashing eml usually indicates injector faults.

The starting issue will be related to fuel pump/regulator, regulator not holding pressure overnight. Turn ign on and off a couple of times to prime fuel system before starting.

If its running ok and not misfiring badly, drive it to AW

Thanks brigsy i think it will be ok to get to him. Saves a fortune on a tow. Might try another local place and say suspect injectors see if I have more luck

Ill echo that, it'll probably be the injectors.

I had this issue with mine, way back when. Changed the coil pack, wasnt that. Changed the HT leads, wasnt that. Finally changed the injectors, ran perfectly afterwards.

Side note: Make sure you stump up for proper genuine injectors. There are plenty of cheap fakes that are tosh.

I don’t doubt it. Had an issue with a crank position sensor which several people identified on here. Might end up taking a punt on a local place replacing them. They’re 23 years old any way and some new genuine ones certainly won’t hurt it even on the off chance it isn’t that!
