Flickering Speedo Needle - Mk1 RSi

I have heard that this is a common Mk1 clio problem, that the speedo needle flickers by as much as 8mph. It looks like it's having a fit!!! and it's really getting on my nerves

Do any of you clever people know how to fix this?
Is it the actual speedo cable that needs replacing or something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It's the speedo cable i think.

I had mine replaced on my valver and now it's very solid.

Yeah me, lol, on my old 1.2 the speedo used to be VERY unstable, used to bounce around all over the place. It had only done 60k as well. Never bothered to find out what it was.

When i got my valver it wasn't as bad, but still noticed it, but now with the new cable it just wobbles a bit at low speed but is fine from like 10/20mph and above.

Cheers Matey. Take it will work with the RSi gearbox as well as the valver/willy one?

Who said it adds character to the car!! Suppose the shonky froggy electrics add character as well!!!

bouncy speedos, fuel gauges that go up and down depending on if ur going left or right, changing the space between the shock bolt holes by 2mm for no apparent reason, leaky sunroofs, rear jetwash pipes that come detached along the back bench front drenching the back of the car, all the joys of owning a renault!

I had this. take the plastic tray off, under the gear box theres a wire and connector its that, hard to explain where it is but it hurts getting to it lol
its the only wire at the back/bottom of the gear box
