hi all

my wifes got a 2001 y reg 1.2 16v,with the earlier cabled accelerator pedal,which has been giving her some problems with clean acceleration,can i change the pedal setup to a later model,which has direct conection to the ecu,if so what would i need,a new potentiometer is ninty qiud,which is a bit steep

In a word, no!

Start with getting the car reliably diagnosed amd then fix the actual issue.
