Focal component and crossover question

  Mini JCW
As the standard sh*tty speakers are crap (drivers side intermittently crackles into life), i'm looking at a set of Focal 13cm component speakers (from MTAUDIO), specs here :

http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-focal-130a1_p-24076.htm

They will be powered by an Alpine 9887r Headunit, internal amps only.

My questions are :

1. Anyone got any experience of these components, will they fit in the doors without making baffles etc?

2. Regarding the crossover supplied - how exactly is this wired up seen as they already posess component speakers and thus must already have the signal seperated at some point? Any ideas as to how to wire this up?

Cheers

Anthony.

4 tweeters would sound a bit much for my ears, i'd disconnect the originals. Original tweeters have components attached to their terminals to act as a crossover and the wires are connected in parallel to the door speakers.

I may have misled on the original post - apologies; I will be replacing both the stock midbass and stock tweeters with the focal equivelants.

So there is no active crossover within the OEM setup?

Could you explain in simple terms in which order I wire in terms of where the crossover fits in? I have used components / crossovers before but that was a complete rewire from external amps so was easy, and a long long time ago

Easy way would be to remove the door cards. Connect the speaker wires in the door to the input of the crossover then run a small length of speaker wire from the crossover up the door to the mirror plastic and mount the tweeter there. Then run another bit of speaker wire from the crossover to the mid speaker. Mount the crossover to the inside of the door. Oh and remove the dash and dissconect the original tweeters.

Right ok then....

So from what i've read - no actual crossover present in these cars, a capacitor is used on the tweeter to filter out LF signals, while the speaker in the door is two way.

The speaker wires go from the HU through the door, where they go to the main speaker and from there back to the tweeter - is this right so far?

So then; intercept the speaker wire behind the doorcard, this is wired into the crossovers input (colour?) > then new wire from midbass output to midbass speaker in the door > this is where I get confused (is there any exisiting wire in the door I can wire into the crossovers tweeter output that is already connected to the tweeter? If not is it a case of laying new speaker cable? > Secure crossover behind the doorcard.

Does that sound right?

Bump - can anyone help with this?

I think what I need to know is at what point does the wire split, and head to the midbass driver and tweeter seperately? As if I can locate this, I can install the crossover near there.

Otherwise it looks like i'll have to pay someone to install them :(

i've got a brand new never used set of those in my spare room if your interested. boxed and everything. only taken out to check they were ok when i bought them.

pm me if your interested.

For the wiring- look under your dash on each side and look for the loom coming from each door. You'll need to open up that loom and trace the wires running to the door speakers (use a multimeter.) Once found, cut them and insert the xover (use wires from headunit for input and wires to door for woofer output.) For the tweeters simply run a new speaker wire up to them from the xover.

For woking out wire polarity hook up a 1.5v battery across the stock speaker- when the cone pushes out from the basket you've got the battery + to the speaker +. ;)

Apologies for typos- I've got 2 broken fingers. :(
