Ford Fiesta Zetec S & an Audi A3 2.0 TDi

  Audi A4 AVANT 1.9TDi
Ford Fiesta Zetec S

Having been subjected to several bodyshop visits within the last year or two, the Fiesta was in need of a good tidy up.

The work was carried out on the owners’ car whilst they were away – not a bad surprise to come home to, hey?

Shortly before setting off:

…doesn’t look like a great day to be working!

As expected, upon arrival, it was still raining.

A few general befores:

DSC_0337.jpg

Wet-work was done in the waterproofs. It didn’t stop raining for the best part of the morning.

Engine was sorted first: G101, various brushes and a light rinse.
Wheels: Megs Wheel Brightener and G101 up into the archs/tyres

Washed down with Born To Be Mild and contaminants lifted with the Elite Poly Clay bar.

Severity of defects:

Paint readings were all over the place. 300+ on most panels.

Due to some nastier marks, the bonnet received a few hits with 85RD 3.02 and a compounding pad. Refining down with 106fa and a polishing.

With that out of the way, I continued to work down the N/S of the car and work my way back.

Taking a wee break from machine work, I turned more attention to the engine bay. Dressing appropriate areas with AutoGlym’s Vinyl and Rubber Care.

Light clusters polished with Menz 85RD 3.02 and an Orange Hexlogic spot pad. Lots of clarity being put back into them…

DSC_0394.jpg

After the machine work was complete the paint received an IPA wipe to remove all oily traces left by the polish residues.

BlackFire Wet Diamond was then used to seal the paintwork.

Tyres were dressed. Glass was cleaned inside and out.

After a bit of light interior work and some seat cleaning, the car was shaping up nicely.

Audi A3 2.0 TDi Pre-Sale.

I was contacted to see if I could spruce the A3 in readiness for a private sale within the next few weeks.

Being a fairly local job I was able to squeeze it in over the Bank Holiday Weekend.

With the assistance of the owner today, I was able to get a few more ‘action’ shots than I usually would. Altogether, it was an all round fun day (albeit dodging the rains from time to time!)

Vehicle inspection…

Front end and other stubborn spots hit with AutoSmart’s G101 before the snowfoam.

DSC_0016.jpg

With the snowfoam and wash stages out of the way, it was time to de-tar and clay the vehicle.

Quite substantial pick-up as you can see.

Before cleansing/sealing the bodywork, I returned back to the engine bay to dress the plastics.

Although having been previously machine polished elsewhere, there were a few deep buffer trails and swirls left in the bonnet

DSC_0034.jpg

Rotary and a polishing pad/203s was used to remove these.

With a few other spot corrections made, it was time to cleanse the body. DA loaded with a blue 3M finishing pad and Poorboys’ BlackHole.

As I applied, the owner followed me round and removed the residues.

First layer of BlackFire’s Wet Diamond applied. Just before removing it, it started to spit.. Typical! A second application was made later on in the day to clear the smears left by buffing the wet residues and add further gloss and protection.

The exterior is now near completed; the tyres were dressed, windows cleaned and Wet Diamond applications removed.

The interior would benefit massively from a deep-clean on the leather, mats cleaned and all plastics etc wiped down.

A very clean/well presented car. Should have no trouble selling this now!

Thanks!

Strange cloth seats in the ZS must have been one of the first. Got half leather even if you didn't spec it!

Awesome write up as always Jim!

Love your threads, the work that goes into these is immense tbh! This a hobby, or your main job?

Cheers all. A quiet week this week; bummer. They come and go, but, plenty to be cracking on with here at home instead!

Top job Jim. Lovely work on both.

Was the Fiesta topped with Wax?

Both the A3 and Fiesta were finished with BlackFire's Wet Diamond. No wax applied.

Nice work! Has the A3 got a different front end? It's got a standard grille opposed to a 'mouth'. Or did they change when the car was facelifted?

Gotta love the results on black cars!

As you guess, facelift version.

Excellent write up Jim. Makes me look forward to having mine back this week after service etc and get the wheels sorted. Really lets it down at the moment - 8 years of build up took their toll!

Always enjoy reading about your work and you never fail to impress.

One quick question. I've noticed you use a number of different products for cleaning the wheels (alloys). Which do you believe is best for removing dirt build up and brake dust?

Cheers
