I need a forum for my site, I can have PHP with my host, the forum must be free, what would people suggest?

but you can get vbb for free in the right places

I'd recommend SMF over any of the other free ones.

If you use Tiny Portal as well you might be able to integrate your website which is what I did.

Okay people, I need some help. I have setup SMF, but not very far.

I need to know what to put in the SMF installer page, below are screeenshots of this and also a screenshot from my CP that shows MySQL 4 installed.

Anyone any ideas?

Are you getting an error?

MySQL Servername - I used "localhost"

I assume you have setup a user and database already and aren't just putting what you like in the other fields?

I have tried entering spl02 as the server name, and it didnt work, plus it says do that for scripts, I dont know what this means, and wouldnt it be better doing the 2nd option, which is connect from my PC?

Yeah it's SMF I always use for the various forums I have set up over the past 3 year. Brilliant piece of software and very reliable.

Just a suggestion, but unless you are planning on adding more categories, I would group your existing ones into one table as it looks a bit busy at the moment.

Take a look at themes as well, whislt the default is very practical, it's a tad dull.

Here's a snapshot of the forum I run for my other half. It's SMF + TP.

thats a quality theme. Do you have do to anything special to customise it?

Do you mean theme SMF or customise a theme?

To theme it all you do is download the one you want, upload it and select it.

Customising depends on the theme, some are really simple and some take a bit of head scratching.

Also, if you use TP as well as SMF then you need to look at TP themes as they also theme SMF. An SMF theme will not theme TP.

Ah in that case all you need to do is...

Admin -> Server Settings -> Forum Title

No need to manually edit any files for that

Like your new theme! If you want to replace SMF Millenium then that's a graphic you will need to edit. (/Themes/2k/images/img/topl.jpg)
