Forward exhaust mount

  Clio 1.4 16v
Hi All.

Just wondered if this was normal mounting of the front section of the exhaust on my 1.4 16v? Just had to replace the Cat and it looked like there was a mount missing? I spoke to my local garage and a mechanic there was convinced that there was supposed to be a rubber mount around the exhaust hanger bracket. I ordered one from Renault after explaining to the Parts chap what I thought the problem was, and I got an expensive part that's already fitted to the car. Hope the photos help with my question. I'm new to Clios so any help would be appreciated. This is only my second post after an introductory thread post :)

Some great stuff on this site. I've already learnt a fair bit. I've done the 172 dogbone mod for my little 1.4 and its really stiffened up the bottom end. Hopefully save the new Cat pipe flexy joint :) I wasn't happy with the sloppy fit of the fwd dogbone mounting bolt in the mount to the gearbox, so I made a bush to remove the play. I'm sure it wouldn't have moved much without the bush but I know it definitely wont move now :)

That's weird, i'd expect to see a rubber mount in that hole in the mount...
That's what I thought too. Wondering if anyone can have a look under their car and see if its the same? To be fair the exhaust fits well with the new Cat. Much nicer drive with the 172 dogbone fitted too. I shouldn't have to worry about the engine rocking and breaking the exhaust again.
Be nice to find out about that mounting point though.

That looks like a better mount! Don't think it will fit it the 1.4 though. Be nice if it did. Another weird thing is if you look at the picture of the exhaust again, theres a part on the opposite side of the exhaust that looks like it would fit into that mounting hole! What is that for?

I'm not sure. May have to do some chopping and welding. I'll have to have a look under another clio in a car park or something to see if it's the same :)

Looks like the piece to the left in the background is the standard mount and someone has welded that new bracket on.
