Fresh engine time bit of advice on parts.

  Arctic 182
Evening all, as a few of you might know i had a problem starting the car earlier in the week and when it would run it was knocking its **** off.

Turns out that the lambda was gone and overfuel'd the car (was still showing 30-mpg!) so didnt take a lot but overfueled enough to wash all 4 bores get fuel in to the bottom end and kaput its knocking.

Rather than be defeated by it i have a ramp a garage a few very experienced mechanics and a super size toolbox so am planning on rebuilding the new lump from bottom to top.

Last car (My cup) went with a bang and a conrod out of the block so have had a look around and ordered a set of ARP rod bolts @ £78 to my door cambelt and dephaser were done last week so they can stay as with the tensioners and the aux belt.

As i have not seen the history to the new engine i have bought, i was thinking of having the crank out and sending it off for a polish and a new set of big ends, Worth it?

As it will be in bits i will do the headgasket and bolts aswell as sending the head off for a clean and new stem oil seals

Will paint it all up and clean it so at least i can look back and see what i have spent a good few hundred quid on.

Main thing is i dont want any extra power im just after it being a good strong engine as it will be doing a few track days through the year, Any more ideas on whats worth doing and changing whilst the lump is out would be great.

Thanks in advance.
