Friend needs some info

  Renault Clio MK4 RS
Hi all,

My friend bought his clio sport 172 a few weeks back. His button on one of his keys was starting to go faulty apparently to disable the immobiliser after changing battery etc he got it checked by someone who claimed they could fix it. He soldered the button back on properly and now he has damaged the immobiliser chip inside it(good luck he has a spare). The person who broke the key has accepted responsibility and gave him a few shops to go to get it repaired and will pay the full amount for it to be repaired.

He took it to each shop and all of them said they are unable to repair it! Im just wondering would it be easy to get a new key and get it coded to the car? or is there a cheaper way to get round this?

Thanks

The whole thing sounds like a massive bodge job to be honest from start to finish. New key time by the sounds of it.

Get those shops that refuse to "fix it" to put that in writing, take it to Renault to get a quote (as the key will require reprogramming to the ECU/immobiliser which will be the expensive part) and get the guy to pay for it. Job done :)

Yeah thats what i thought about a new key. Would give him the peace of mind knowing the key is new aswell. The shops he got told to go to where the shopkeepers friends who own shops but all of them said they couldnt do it! Ive told me friend to go to the shop that broke it and get a written conformation that he broke it so hes got back up if needed.
