Front discs for the Willy

  TT 225

Any recommendations? At the moment I have Tarox G88 (40 groove) but I have managed to warp them (oops)

Errr.... LOL. I dont know - to be honest I think they were slightly warped when I picked the car up (honest :)) but now they are getting worse and its pissing me right off! Still stops quite well at speed but on slowing down further I look like a nodding dog - bloody jerky. More annoying than dangerous at the moment

I think k-tec offer a full front upgrade (discs pads and calliper extenders) for about £200. Quite tempted myself.

the same....

i like plain discs as you never get them hot enough on the rd, and they start quiet.....Raldes fo them for 30 quid the pair, grp N rally spec which isnt much, but they are as good as manything else and 1/4 of the price...

which are the best pads ben? was it Mintex? i was going to get the rally design discs but i dont know what pads to get for my enthusiastic road driving, bearing in mind i did get brake fade for what ever reason (fluid or discs) and never want to experience it again!

no too fond of teh reddot brand, old tar-ox and use the designs as a spin off......ergh

Mintex 1144 are what i have used on all my cars with the plain discs, fine and NEVER EVER faded, even when underbraking everything at coomb. Almost hit a MGA as he turned in very late...ooer...sideways i say, sideways! lol

DS2500 are meant to be the updated ds2000, and they should be good, not tried them though. Pagid pads are FAB as teh racers say but price is teh main downfall, but good stuff. also, there is alot of this Hawk Performance stuff from the US. Semms pretty good and not expensive. I say give them a go......

what fluid ben? can i get away without braided hoses? they seem expensive for what they are, my car isnt that hard prressed in reality i just need a cost effective replacment for my crappy Black diamond pads and OE discs, with uprated parts if needed?

yeah, braided hoses are only for expainsion purposes.

I use castrol super Dot 4 synthetic, its just as good as any dot 5 without the hypoid characteristics, well, not as severe....it also has a high boiling point and is readiliy available at a normal price. DOT 5 is good, but absors woater fast and once water is in, the boiling point drop substantially.....

I got Billet 4 pots and 285mm grooved discs, braided lines and dot 5 fluid, from Hi-Spec.

Lovely job and they even fit behind my standard 15" Willy wheels !!

Mike - what a good idea! ;) :D

Seriously tho - I do and will be using the Willy for a few track days this year so need a set of brake discs that will cope with these. There are a few recommendations above so I guess ill go away and price things up :)

If you want to get the best you can you really need to go up a size in discs. Something like Leighs setup or just get the big disc kit, you can have 285mm grooved discs using your existing caliper, itll fit behind standard discs, for around £200. Then add £50 for a set of Ferodo DS2000 pads and youre in business. The good thing about the 2000s is they dont need breaking in. Just a couple of dabs on the brakes when you first get them and thats it.

Cant really afford the £500 plus Leigh has spent - but the big disc kit sounds promising! Got any details on it?
