Front No Plates & New Mot Laws?

  Renaultsport Clio 182 ff
Hi,

Front No Plate original Lookers Chelmsford one is damaged, i went to get a new one made, was even going to get Lookers Renault printed at the bottom of it to make it look sort of original.

But have been told that for New MOT's (new law) you have to have the company's name & postcode & BS No on the bottom of plate, and not just any wording that you feel like putting on there....
I was told this by a place that makes No plates??
anyone heard of this.....
ie: if you have Renaultsport Clio 182, printed it will not pass an MOT...??

ummmm

I believe that is true, I got mine from Halfords and you can't really see the writing as it's is almost the same colour as the background.

They did them while I waited and it was only about 15mins, needed several documents but I can't remember what though.

its not new laws but a MOT tester would have to be anal to pick up on it

mine doesnt have anything else on it apart from the reg. As long as its easily visable then it'll be fine

Im doing the rounds tomoro of MOT stations to get ask them if they will pull my tints+number plates. From what i can gather, some testing stations are more leniant than others

just read on wicked plates (on ebay.co.uk) they are saying the same, all plates to be legal for MOT's must have company name (who made the plate) BS No, & postcode of company.

So guess they are saying if you had Renaultsport 182 printed at the bottom and nothing else they would fail an MOT.

Mind you could always change plates just for an MOT, i suppose
Wicked Plates sell a pair with GB Blue emblem for around £8.95 + £3.00 postage

i think the size of the plate does matter, also it is the measurement between the lettering and the gap between the two sectiosn on the plate

i think....

Mine passed MOT In Jan... 3/4 sized with nothing other than my reg on it.

think we need more info...

this is a quote from another No Plate seller...

(Plates won't pass an MOT if you have a personal message on they must have our supplier logo etc for the MOT)

i was just a little concerned about my front window tints+number plates (which are cut down+have nothing but my registration on them).

Am i right in thinking, if a car fails an MOT or something gets pulled up on it, you have to sort it in 7days+cant just go to another MOT station??

I read this rule beginning of last year... and None of the MOT stations that I or any of my friends use have had any issues.

My Van was mot'd on Friday and it passed!

Carbon 3D gel lettering, Mercedes badge instead of GB logo and my website addy along the bottom of the plate below the numbers

My plates have a personal message on the bottom but they also have the BS number and motorfactors post code, they passed an mot on the clio.

just been to my local MOT station, to enquire about my tints+plates. Apparantly window tints arnt part of an MOT. It was talked about, but the machines used to test them were ridiculously expensive for every test centre to have. They are a VOSA issue apparantly.
Regardling my number plates, the tester complained about the wrong thing! My characters, spacing+font are exactly the same as my dealer issue number plates, however mine are cut down, because i only have 6 characters in my number plate. He didnt mention the fact i dont have a postcode/address on them, which i thought he would mention, he just said i would need some full size plates in the boot for him to pass it.

Oh+how long as an MOT been £50.35?!?! Shows how long ive not MOT'd a car for!! lol

45 quid for my MOT! i think all this stuff about numberplates is bullshit anyway why does it matter so much if theres a company logo on the plate and a postcode?

The info. needs to be on the plates so the police can go back to the plate maker and get details of the purchaser should the car be used in any illegal activity.

Good info here:

Mine passes with french plates, however, some places won't even sell you plates without their information on :(

When i replaced mine, local place insisted i had it on, wouldn't do blank plates with just my reg on.
