Front speaker query

Hi again, are you ready for another completely newbie question?

As you probably know, this is my 1st car and ive never experienced upgrading one before:

I have a V-Reg Clio 1.2i Grande DN and want to upgrade the audio equipment with it, I got a JBL bass tube and Kenwood head unit free with the car as the person selling it was getting a bike instead.

Now, Im planning on keeping the head unit and getting an ipod cradle/charger/connector as I dont want hundereds of CD's in my car.

So after reading posts on this forum, I have decided to go in the way of (money being an issue, not too much of one but a temporary one):

Front speakers
iPod accessories
Amp
Sub(s)

Probably in that order, now when measuring my current (standard i think) front speakers, they are (cone size) 5"

Now for the queries

1) Is that really a 5" speaker (its 5 1/4" bolt to bolt)?
2) Can I, with ease, put in a 5 1/4" speaker - like for like? (no extra work)
3) What affordable quality speakers could you reccommend based on my above questions.

Long winded I know, but I want to save future stupid questions

Many Thanks

Ok cheers, affordable is dependant on quality - but that would be an endless loop

I dont want top of the range, just of higher and noticable quality

Probably limits of £70 (but Id prefer £50)

Would i need to make different holes for 5.25?

Are the connections all the same? renault / aftermarket?

Cheers

**Edit**

I was thinking maybe These

I like pioneer, I find they have high quality components.

Ok, say I wanted:

2 x of htese

And a set of the above speakers

Would that be half decent? Easy to install?

And what Amp would be a good idea?

I think all in all thats ok and affordable, but would like some other opinions

if you were set on using 2 of those subs you will need N mp that could show them in excess of 700 watts at 2 ohm. For this you are talking a fair bit of wedge on a mono amp, i would say £300+ would do it. There are cheaper options though.

Plus you will need to build a big, strong box with 2 chambers of about 25litres each.
Personally with the amount of budget you were talking about I would buy a 4 channel amp and a 10 inch sub, run the components off of the amp and bridge for the single sub. Brand wise take a look at JBL they are pretty good for that level of cash. Also consider second hand stuff.

Many thanks for your input

Financially I look to be able to invest more in a couple of months, but as I dont have a license yet :) was looking to get some stuff lined up and just planning then budgeting for my desired set up.

Ill probably go for a single 10" / 12" sub, those alpine front speakers and an amp.

Thanks again, and if you could suggest an amp that would meet my criteria for those speakers and a single 10"/12" amp that would be great.

How would you rate this setup, obviously on a slightly limited budget to someone who wants quality but not the mutts nutts just affordable good quality

This package
and speakers

Would that be ok, my mp3's are only 128kbps so highest quality isnt that important ;)

those Alpine speakers i find are quite treble harsh, id go for some Pioneers around the same price range instead

or JBL components at your local Motor World, £55

  Monaro VXR
i dont rate the sub / amp either heard one in my mates car was not impressed. Its just massively thumpy with no real tune to it imo.
