MOFO there is a good ICE shop next to Maidstone Prison. Cant remember the name but the fella was really helpful when I popped in for afew bits.

^^^ was it a fat bald bloke? he tried to knock me once, tried to charge me £299 for a jbl amp which was 4x50watts rms or 2x125 watts rms or 1x250wrms, and said this would run a alpine type r sub 1000watts rms 3000watts peak fine, never went back since lol.

 He probably lives next door ;) :clown:

The standard size is 13cm / 5.25"

Alpine will sound much better than the 65p clio speakers and the depth should be fine :)

You going for components?

Good choice, you'll be happy! :)

Gussing from your avatar that you won't be fitting an amp lol
Just make sure your HU has a good RMS rating (e.g 45-50w) to handle the front speakers you intend to get.

You seem pretty erm, informative on ICE so I have a quick question. If you match the RMS on the speakers to the output on the HU will it be as good a quality as having the speakers amped, or would it be better to use an amp so you could control the frequency ranges a bit better?

a system will always sound better with an amp, and good quality cabling - but only if the sound source can deliver a high-end signal to the amp inputs.

My R32 JL Audio setup would benefit hugely from a high-end Alpine head unit, but I use a Pioneer because of its Navi and music storage features.

Even a cheap-ish Sony head unit that I've bought for the Cup has made a big difference - the OEM CD player is terrible quality :(

In all honesty, I'm learning more as my ICE comes together :)
Not 100% on the technical end of things yet but I will share my advice on here where I can though

I have been told not to take RMS ratings for granted as they aren't exact all of the time. An amp will improve your sound by-far without a doubt, unless its either "cheap & nasty" or fitted by halfords lol

  Mustang, S13, AX GT
fair enough, all my speakers are amped I just wondered if it was possible to get real good quality without. guess its something to find out...

6 channel amp, pheonix gold sub, pheonix gold 6x9s and caliber coaxials in the front doors (soon to be upgraded to pheonix gold components). I think the standard rear speakers are still wired to the HU so I may need to change them to the coaxials when Im done.

Stick the coaxils that you have in the rear to replace the 65p renault ones and loose the 6x9s ;)
A good set of components in the front amped with your 6chnl (2 channels bridged for each side) that will leave 2 channels spare to bridge for the sub - all good if your amp is capable of doing so :)

I like the 6x9s being in the back, the mid bass from them is not totally clear from the sub but its here, and the tweater in the 6x9s make the sound much more complete through the car imo. Plus if they went I'd need a new shelf :D
