Front steering arms

  172
Alright everyone,

I just had my car serviced and i was told i need both steering arms left and right. the garage can supply and fit them for 204.73 stuff that.

So what is a steering arm and where can i get one i have check gsf and eurocarparts. Is the steering arm a name for something else or something?

Thank you

Dblock

check if they mean the track rod ends or the track rods.

if it's just the track rod ends that need renewing, you could probably do it yourself (they're not difficult) for less than half that (including tracking afterwards)

Yeah phoned the garage they said its not a track rod but its a rod and its the bit inbetween the steering column and the rod end so im assuming its a track rod. where is the best place to get this from for a 172 ive checked on gsf and eurocarparts and no luck.

Cheers

apols, still a little confused.
i thought it was possible to tighten the track rods but, if you need new ones, could start by pricing them up at Renault as a 'worst case scenario'. others might know if they're available as a pattern part

Yeah im still confused aswell the mechanic is a bit weird he has his on lingo for everything. cheers mate

Between the rack and the wheel you have two parts - the Tie Rod end and the Track rod end. (They're called a number of things but you get the gyst lol)

The Tie Rod end is the rack end of the rod (the fat bits in the pic), the Track Rod end is the wheel end of the rod (with the bolt on).

Have a look at EuroCarParts website for suspension components and see what the 172 ones come up as. Complete arms, Tie rod and Track rod together, cost me just under £90 for a valver so I imagine yours will be similar.

*edit* D'oh, I just reread the above and checked for myself and you're right, they don't come up at ECP!

Fitting is a b**ch though... I'm not looking forward to it lol
