Fuel rail guard cover

Car  Clio172
This came loose a few months back aand i tightened it up. Just checked the engine bay and it has come away completely now? I did check it was secure, seems as if the flimsy washers might have something to do with this. Anyone had the same problem?#

Cheers;)

Theres two nuts down the holes that keep it in place, just put some nylock nuts on there that should keep them in place

Then most probably the thread on the nuts are damaged, just bung some new ones in job done. Iv removed mine as it was on the way

why are thses fitted anyways....just to stop puctures of the fuel rail by flying stones?

Has anyone made a lighter cheaper stainless version?

have you had the lower inlet off? the bolts that the fuel guard is attached to might need tightening up themselve?

No it is a crash protection for the fuelrail. Guess its to prevent fire in case of a crash.

Bit of a waste of weight really, but if it prevents fires then can't hurt to keep it. They could have probably made it a bit smaller and easy to undo though :S

It's held in by 2 long bolts (in the left and middle holes as you look at it from the front) undo the two nuts if still attached and the fuel rail guard comes off (may need to remove engine cover if fitted) leaving the two bolts in place which are screwed into the engine block went through four of these bolts in total as the original and then replacement bolts sheared causing it to rattle at low speed. So far the last set of bolts fitted have held out.
Also used toothed washers to help the nuts grip tight.
