Full fat 'toys'

Recently I've been rolling around a fair bit in a 182FF and have been sampling these toys that make it such a special car. Now, I'm not slating the car here, but I've made a few observations.

Climate - yeaaaaaaaah. I find my basic AC keeps a more stable temperature TBH. CC seems to have a mind of its own. Turning the temperature up and down with buttons vs. a dial? Brilliant.

Auto wipers - riiiiiiiiiiight. Automatically f**k up? Pretty much constantly having a fit. They come on just fine, and stay on, forever. They're automatic apart from the fact that you have to mess about all the time or suffer having them trying to grind through the windscreen at max speed when it's not raining.

I'd have once said they're toys worth having, but frankly the non-auto items in my Cup required much less attention. The FF may have some extra gadgets but in my experience they suck very hard. Was this just a bad car?

I don't really use CC much.But when i do it's pretty good, and seems to maintain the right temp.

Auto wipers imo are crap.

The only thing i would miss if i had a cup variant would be the xenon lights

My CC works fine . Keeps the cabin at a constant temp as it's suppose to do . Auto wipers are a good thing imo and work fine in my 182 as they did in my 172 , it rains , they come on , it rains harder , they wipe faster .

I'd rather have the toys than not have them

gotta agree, my autowipers work fine, have them set to max on the dial thing.

never use CC but i have have on any of my previous cars so not bothered about that.

another thing i love is automatic light. the amount of times ive used my fella van and forgot to switch the lights on when its dusk is unreal

strange, roy.

my auto wipers are actually REALLY useful. knock it up then down as soon as it starts to rain, and simply leave it. as it gets harder, it gets slightly faster, as the rains or I slow down, they slow down perfectly in tune.

I was just thinking the day before yesterday when it royally p1ssed down that they are a godsend. no need for ANY adjustment.

maybe the sensor was filthy on the one you had or something? just a thought. not being lame at all mine genuinely do work very well lol

auto lights are cool prefer them to turning the light on. one touch full beam ftw! lol pure laziness

climate control is good.. rarely use it for a specific temp usually just max temp or min temp if I'm hot or cold and simply turn it off when it feels cold/hot enough tbh.. pretty pointless me having it, but a nice feature nonetheless.

clio full fat = lazy mans car tbh. not that it's a big deal to control your own lights which I do end up doing most of the time as I get worried the auto lights may mess up at a crucial moment down lanes at night and leave me in the dark. renault don't have the best electrical record, right? lol

all in all - they are not must haves - but are nice. depends what you're after from the car. I personally wanted a good all round package.

oh and the seats are lovely too.. would defo prefer the recaros tho.

wipers work after turning them on in rain...

but the auto lights what a good idea !!!

brill and the abs comes in handy some times

Never, ever use the climate - don't really see the need. Would miss the auto-wipers, which for 90% of the time work fine.

The biggest loss if I didn't have the FF version though would be the xenons. I've got so used to them now and I still like the blue-haze effect when they kick in, even after four years of owning it.

i have to agree with all this. I hardly use the auto wipers cause there shat. The climate doesn't really get used. I love the xenons though

Never had any issues with any of the kit on my 172 or my 182. A couple of times the wipers have had a spaz episode but only when the rain got to monsoon rate. Easily solved by pushing the stalk out of intermittant with the sensor onto constant anyway, hardly the end of the world.

As above, all the kit was spot on in my 172 ff.

My ex bought a 182 Cup and to be honest the interior let it down and in thats part the reason she got a bit fed up with it.

the only thing that ever occurs to me is i'd like the xenons. Other than that i'm fine with doing the rest myself. Although i suppose you cannee miss it if you've nevr had it.

i know what you mean about the CC going mental - but i find this is only when i press the 'auto' button, if i set it to a temperature and fan speed manually it is fine.

the wipers are a bit pants when there is light rain - when there is just enough to impair my vision i find it thinks there is not enough rain to be worth a wipe - once it gets heavier they are perfect though

You mean 182cup = half hearted attempt. 172 cup is the only mk2 cup worth having IMO.

Exactly what I was going to say. I'm quite capable of turning or moving the stalk to do the things for me. Thankfully I have none of that shizz on my car.

The a/c is ok, but it's not the best.

Auto lights come at silly random times anyway (my old boys ones do) it looks daft most of the time. He knows that he can turn them off, he just leaves them though.

i had auto lights on my Brabus roadster, one night traveling home from work some idiot pulled out on me from a junction, luckily i managed to swerve round him but 50yards after had still not gained control, the engine had cut out and the automatic lights went off which left me firstly trying to regain control in darkness eventually coming to a standstill not knowing where i was. Needless to say i will never use then again. Although xenons FTW.

Simple...set the lights to come on when you turn the car on...oh thats right MK2's don't do that...:rasp:

ABS isn't required if you're capable of modulating your braking pressure. All the 172cup's that were put into ditches or through garden walls backwards were due to too much confidence and a lack of talent. Driving to the conditions is something you should do regardless of the presence of ABS. I personally would always go for a 172 over a 182 if I was looking for a cup. You're right both have pap interiors so may as well have the better car if you are sacrificing spec.

A proper cup (a 172 one) = still the best 'cup' imo.
Cack seats - easily changed.
ABS, not needed in todays world at all. Only folk who can't drive need ABS.

The 172 cup is better because less is more...no traction, no abs, no cruise...really the 182 cup is a half arsed job..
