Looking for a respray for my ph1 172. All body panels and door and boot shuts. Does anyone know anywhere good in the south west and how much it will be?

  Renault Clio 172 Ph2
This would be good to know also, I need to get my bumper and bonnet done and sprayshack seemed my best bet until they stopped for the time being...

depends on the Color, different colors and finishes are different costs by a long way, if an OEM Color it's not too bad, around 1.5K for a decent non bodger job, if the paint is a peal / flip / metalflake, Chromaflair then it can go to double that.

I know of a couple of decent places in Bristol.. James at Restomod in Warmley is brilliant. Recently had a lot of work done by him. He isn't cheap though but with paint you get what you pay for. I would expect to pay £2,000+ for a full respray.

For a wrap i'm guessing?

No £1500 will get the outer panels redone for a restoration job, if after a full strip and custom job with different paints then of course will be much much more.
LOl @ paying £1500 for a wrap job,

Give my brother (Gavin) a ring 07970 781789 he will be a lot cheaper than £2000 for a full respray.

You should know there are two ways of doing a " respray" there is the method of rubbing down the outer panels, removing rubbers, prepping and painting, and then there is completely removing all glass, interior, engine the lot and repeating.

Exactly, and just because one place quote £5k to do that, doesn;t mean another place quoting £1k wont also do that.

I've seen £750 paint jobs that look better than £2k paintjobs. Best thing to do, instead of asking on the internet, is go into a few paintshops, ask for a price, see some work, and get them to talk you through their process/explain your options

Here here, just bear in mind some people on here do this stuff for a living and will always slate another mans work ( bad trait in the motor trade ) and their prices are always justified and everyone is too cheap so means a bad job.

If anyone wants to actually discuss painting and resprays I know all about this, My dad used to run a garage in Chertsey Called Moto Marque ( still there to be checked on, call custard if people want ) for restoring Rollers, Lambos and Ferraris, best rep in the area and looked after the Damon Hill Car Club too, so anyone on here who goes making up ridiculous prices for their " good work" will just be lol'd at.

Just lol at not stripping a car down, it can be done ( door handles left on ) but one f**k up and it's all a mess.

Its all in the prep.

Id like to know why people genuinely think £1500 onwards is acceptable.
The place my car was sprayed at don't even charge that. Half it an your almost there.

Motortrade- people get to much sucked in by th higher the price , better the quality. That couldnt be more wrong.

Want a job doing, ask for proof of work they have done, even visit the place

If a garage told me they "could" leave the door handles on if I wanted, i'd walk out! Who the f**k leaves a door handle on!

No you'd take the door handles off obviously, well I'd f**king hope they would as I wouldn't want them Gippo blended.

Depends on the garage I'd imagine. Theres a place local to me, and if the guys who do the strip down break any parts, then the cost is taken out of there pay. I'd imagine those guys will leave as much as possible on the car

Anyone who brakes a door handle is a fucktard and shouldn't be doing the job anyway, it's just about taking time when doing it and not yanking at everything, some old boys think everything is attached by clips.

Did he say he was a director? I can be a director also. Doesn't make me important or any richer!

Didn't imply it did, did I? If you own a portion of a Business then you will be a director no? or is this Typical CS reading to far into things for lame troll attempts and hating again?
No comments on the pricing / quality / gunning everyone's else's work then I take it?

I make no comment of other peoples work in this case. I try to avoid it where possible. "A garage" doesn't do resprays cheap without cutting corners. If they did, they wouldn't make any money.

What I call cutting corners others might think is normal. We try to have an attitude where possible (I do anyway) do it right first time, if you don't, damm better make sure it's right second time around.

Leaving handles, mirrors, mouldings etc in, imo is just silly. You're making a rod for your own back at a later date!

Lol at paying 1500 for a respray. Round here it's 400 for a good job.

I haven't read the rest of the thread, but I'd love to see a £400 re spray. I could pick more holes in it than a net curtain.

Agreed, I would never pay that or expect to pay it, £1500 is my known figure on repainting the average sized hatch back, with rubbers removed, handles off, mouldings off, Wipers and badges ( although some badges are a lot of money, £115 for new VX badges on my old Mk3 Astra GSI ffs ) a lot of it is in the technique people use, the amount of cars I've seen that were supposed to be expensive jobs had nothing but tigering down the bonnet, stood out a mile off, Done properly with good paint and mixed correctly, clean tool and a good bit of know how, baked on afterwards and not left in the shop to dry will leave a nice job. doesn't have to cost the earth.

I just take silly prices as they cannot be arsed with the job itself, Like independent garages charging 1k for a stupid cambelt change on a poxy little clio.

I love this place. £400 for a full re spray. My bodyshop that I use would put even do a front end re spray for that.

I don't even know where to start with this thread. FLOL at £400 for a respray for a start, I guarantee it looks like it's been done by Stevie Wonder with a sugar rush.

I'm baffled by people thinking upwards of £1500 is an unacceptable price. Any garage doing it for less than that is either cutting corners or desperate for work. Like Gally says though, some things I think are pikey and half arsed are acceptable to other bodyshops, some of the paint jobs I see are so horrendous I genuinely could not achieve such a s**te end result without going out of my way to f**k it up.

People forget that it's all in the prep work too. Just because it looks shiny and lovely on the outside doesn't mean it was prepped properly beforehand.
