I haven't read the rest of the thread, but I'd love to see a £400 re spray. I could pick more holes in it than a net curtain.

shite pictures i know but all i have. Porsche cost me £300 to have full front end done including roof and doors. z3mcoupe was £400 for full respray....I know you cant tell a lot from pictures but honestly the work was stunning better finish than factory.

There's something you're not telling us. Either it was a mate that did it and you paid for the paint/materials etc yourself, or the place cut corners.

A proper bodyshop cannot make money out of a £400 respray. It just doesn't happen.

Lol at paying 1500 for a respray. Round here it's 400 for a good job.

I got my CRX resprayed in a new colour including inside the doors and repairing both bumpers for £550 (not engine bay though) I'm not gonna say it was the ultimate paint job but it was damn good and still looked like the day I got it back when I sold it 4 years later.

Shop around!

Surely the materials for the sanding, primer, painting, clearcoat etc must cost a fair bit? Or am I way out? I have no idea what's involved in car spraying but surely I'm not far off?

  Clio 172 phase 1
Clive at c&r vehicle repair lydney or go see Alan Dixon dody repairs up pointy pool way there both very good with high standards however I'd expect a same colour spray to be £1,500 for a blow over and up to £4k for a full colour change all depends on prep work and paints time is money....

  Petrol Blue 182.
I paid £300 to have a front end spray, bumper, bonnet and both wings. The quality was s**t.

All of that plus cleaning materials, wages, ground/unit rent, electricity, fuel to run the booth etc etc. Yet people think £1500 is unreasonable. :S

Genuinely LOL'd at that!

How long ago was that at that price pm me his no. I will book my car in .

Was about 4 years ago but I've had loads of stuff done by the same bloke. My r26.r will be there soon getting some trackday damage sorted he quoted me £100 to have the rear quarter fixed and painted. It's a very small garage in County Durham bloke works on his own and finish is spot on.... There are garages out there that don't cost a fortune and give good results.

£100 is a rip off mate. If he is spraying a whole car for £400 then it should be about £50 for the rear quarter.

Yes but the rear quarter is creased in needs a bit of work to sort it out.... I know your taking the piss but the work off this bloke is top notch so I'm happy and if others are happy paying £1500+ for their £2000 clio to be resprayed I'm happy for them to :)

If it's one guy who works on his own, that explains a little more as to why he's only charging £400. It's still mega mega cheap though and hardly means people paying £1500 is ridiculous.

I wouldn't get out of bed to do a respray for £400.

I like that people neglecting the vat and overheads. Some shed in the guys back garden, i'd be able to do it for £400!

My spot repair on the rear bumper was £125. If you can get a respray for £400, send me a PM/the company name. Perfectly happy to give it a try. Only the company can loose out...

  A special one.
£400 re-paints, funny very funny.

The basic costs would come to more than that.
The price for an average car would be £1500 ^ and i dont mean masking everything up, painting in a dust filled workshop and using the poorest of products.

Even if you did/could paint a car for £500 and even if it did look ok when it was done, i guantee you 1000,000 % it look look s**t in about 1 month.

There is two factors that you can not get away from.

1, Paint and materials cost
2, Labour cost

To get a good paint finish these are the things that you have to do.

13 years ago the company i used to work for painted Joanna Lumleys husbands Aston Martin V8 Vantage, end bill 14k

£400 is a bit on the low side for a respray tbh, im sure someone may have had it done at some point but that doesnt mean thats the cost of a respray.

it really depends on the company. insurance/thacham approved places charge the earth. bodyshop i work in recently did a back bumper on a jag couple weeks ago, simple job, left it on, chrome on the top type and we charged £150, now the garage next door is a huge place that has contracts with repairing the local police cars and all insurance work. they quoted him over £900. ive worked at that place too and the work was exactly the same as ours if im honest.

ive worked at quite a few places and tbh, price means nothing at all. if you wanna go spend 4k on a respray then go spend 4k on a respray, but i can guarantee there will be other places that will do it for half that for the same quality of work.

go ask around a few places, get some quotes then ask to see some paintwork fresh out of the booth.

full respray, no major repairs, engine left in, youre looking at anywhere from £800-£4000, dependant on where you go.

you DONT get what you pay for in bodywork, i dunno why people think that. a bodyshop is only as good as its preppers and painters.

  Ph1 track car, Dci
For reference, I got quoted £1500 from 3 different places just to wrap a clio. An extra £200 just for door/boot shuts. And that's just a giant sticker with minimal prep needed!

Went to see my painter today and booked my car in 120 notes and I'm getting rear quarter panel crash damage fixed and whole rear end boot and rear bumper painted on the r26r.

I think the best thing to do is ring around and visit a few bodyshops. No one clearly has a definitive answer on here.
