Funny noises

Heya!

On the way back from alton towers yesterday, my car started making some dodgy noises. It sounded like the brake pads but when we took the wheel off it wasnt that or the discs. I asked one of my friends what they thought and they said its probably something called a thrust bearing. If it is this, is it gonna be expensive to change, will i be better off just buying a whole new gearbox and/or engine and what happens if i dont change it soon?

Please help

Thanx x

at what point did you hear the noise, were you accelerating/braking/cornering/changing gear?

replacing the gearbox / engine is very drastic!

is the car constantly making this noise now?

If i keep my foot on the accelerator the noise isnt there, its just when either the clutch is down or if i press no pedals at all.

Any ideas?

Thanx x

if its the thrust bearing its all part of the clutch assembly anyway, you get a pressure plate, thrust bearing, and clutch plate with the kit , take it to your local garage will probably cost you around £200. it does sound like the clutch from what your describing , hope this helps ya .

its an easy job ..............for a mechanic or somebody thats good with cars , its a gearbox out jobby you have to make sure the clutch plate is properly lined up for the gearbox to go back in too .
