G1 Phone

Car  2008 Albi 197
Anyone seen this? Looks pretty good IMO, apart from the fact it's on T-Mobile :(

Potentially, very good.

But just look at that phone above.. you just wouldn't get it out in public would you? :p

By coincidence, I'm sitting in my kitchen writing a review of the G1 right now.

Quick summary - Android shows masses of potential, and even as it stands is probably the closest mobile OS competitor to the iPhone. However, the hardware itself is mediocre at best. Although I can't get HTC to confirm this, I think that Microsoft has a pretty tight leash on them, and therefore HTC can't put Android on its best handsets.

On another note, the HTC Touch HD is an incredible bit of kit, and probably the closest thing to a real iPhone competitor I've seen so far. Only spent a short amount of time with it, but so far it looks like a great phone, despite still runing Windows Mobile underneath.

Is the Touch HD faster than some of the other touch screen phones of theirs? We have one in testing here and it is shockingly slow to do anything.

The Touch HD is a big improvement on the previous HTC touch phones. I really like it, but still haven't had time to test it properly, since I've got to get the G1 reviewed first.

Should be publishing the G1 review on Wednesday, but may not be able to get to the Touch HD until next week as I have to head up to Scotland for the Volvo XC60 launch. Yes it's a Volvo, but it looks pretty interesting from a technology point of view - guess I'll find out when I head off into the highlands in one :)

I just think that winmob is such a dire os.

Might have the best hardware in the world, but the os is years behind MOS X

The G1 looks ok in the flesh, quite impressed with the build.

Tbh at the moment the Android is just a competitor against Windows Mobile.

It's no way near as good at the iPhone OS.

Google have even made the Youtube, Gmail, Earth, Search and Maps Apps for the iPhone.

lol.. I've got the G1 but it was already updated..

Thats a pretty bad thing to forget to remove..

One word...

Java

What idiot decided that a Java SDK was a good idea?

"Java, write once, run anywhere (horribly)"
