Gas Flowing or Port and Polish??

Which do you guys think is a better gain for the money out of, Gas flowing or port and polishing??

Not quite sure of the differences...:eek:
 
I think there the same, gas flowing just means using a machine to work out flow rates porting and polisng etc is the modying of bits of the engine.
Best ask BenR or stan* though they'll know more.

both are generic "terms" for modifying the ports to improve gas-flow. polishing is often mistakenly used, as there is little polishing....the major work is the re-shaping of the ports. polishing is the final exercise on the exhaust ports and chamber...it contributes very little to the overall performance gain.

A million people use a million terms for what is essentially a modified cylinder head, so feel free to call it anything you want as a head specialist will know what your referring to.....within reason, ask him for beans on toast and you'll get just that.

Modification of cylinder heads is a highly specialised area and there is a grat difference between people who do average headwork (the majority) and jaw dropping headwork. Reputations can be misleading as i know many 'experts' in the field of cylinder heads and most of them i wouldnt give a tractor to.

Polising is a left over term from the 70's.......i dont know any decent specialist that polishes anything at all.
 
i dont like polishing ex and chambers due to the carbon thickness variations it leads to. The correct finish will support a uniform and self cleaning carbon layber which enhances combustion quality, thats just what i do and like.

i learned ben back in asia, its quite common for most oversea nationals to learn ben........infact, i dont know where i would be today without knowing ben, ben is the best..........

ladies love ben aswell, so knowing ben greatly helps in that department.

That is near impossible to answer.

Cylinder head specialists only really specialise in a few heads, or a marque. It takes lots of time to develop and continue developing a head, its not a matter of someone just being a good flow specialist, it takes time, testing and more time, lots of thought and sparks of eureka.

Someone who is s**t hot at a cosworth head will be almost usless on a honda because they follow entirely different port design theory.

However most great head people will be able to make any head flow better, but like i said, alot of the specialists make heads which would convince me to stick with std items.
