Gas headlights...

  clio 182
Hi

I have an 04 Clio 182 and one of my front headlights flickers and goes off when i turn my lights on. I have asked about a replacement but was told to go to renault as they may be gas lights.....they have told me that it may not be the bulb as this comes on it may be the connection but they want £49 just to confirm this....Any ideas please!?!?!?

So can i just buy replacement xenon bulbs and then get them fitted? Can any garage do the diagnostic to check if its the connection or the bulb thats not working?

Thanks

Did you fix this problem? I put 10000k bulbs from hid direct in mine, worked fine but the car has been stood for about 6month. Lights have worked fine for a few days now started flickering on the drivers side. Iv put the standard bulbs back in and put a spare starter I had on the faulty side but still doing it! I'm guessing its the ballast and there not cheap to buy :(

You can fit them yourself, bumper off job. It may also be the ballast. Have a search for the issues you are having on here!

everyone always says this buts its not true, also have u even tried to change the bulbs or are u going on 'what people have said'?? not much help to the op really..

I changed my bulb without taking the bumper off (some of us are better than others)

It is possible to change bulbs with the bumper on. When I was still a teenager I hadn't the faintest idea how to get the front bumper off, so I had to make do.

these days I'd find it much easier to just take the bumper off and pop the headlights out, but only because I've done it so many times.

You don't have to take the bumper off! I didn't and saved myself a heap of time, took about 5-10 mins, bumper off job takes about half an hour or more!

Take the fuse box off, this will give you a bit more room and will leave you with the rubber surrounding. Twist and pull the Xenon box away from the light and un plug it. When the box is out you can then take the light out.

To re fit you can put the light into the box or reverse the above method. Both are tricky however as you need space. I put the bump into the Xenon box and pushed the box up to the rubber around the fuse box and pivoted the xenon into the light surround. When the light and box are in place plug the power lead into the box and push and twist the box in.

The other method is the put the xenon into the surround and balence it in there. Then get the box slide that down the gap, then (you'll need small fingers) twist the light into the box as said above avoiding touching the Xenon light as the grease on your fingers will boil on the light and make it pop! Now plug the power lead into the Xenon box and push and twist as said above.

It is very fiddley however you don't need to take the bumper, arch liners, wheels etc. off and saves you lots of time...

Also OP the lights are around 20 odd pound on Ebay. When the lights arrived they were from silvervision who have a good reputation. Don't get them from halfords as they ask for 60,(47 with trade card) and they're not the right bulb either.
