Gauges test!?

Not sure which section this would go in so I hope it'll do in this one, seen a thing about a gauge test but holding the button on the dash in and the gauges start pumping, does anyone know if that actually does anything or is it pointless?

Utterly pointless, although I do seem to remember it showing some basic engine information if the engine is then started.
