Gear box oil change

Planning to change the gearbox oil and just wanted to check id got it right

Do I pour the oil into 1 until it reaches the level of hole 2 and starts coming out?

Some do it that way.

I always use a funnel and length of garden hose in hole 2.

3 litres. Bang. Job done.

No no no no no. No.1 is the box breather, no.2 is the fill/level plug with the drain plug being on the bottom of the box.

But surely by pouring it down the breather its just gonna end up in the box? or is it just easier to fill through no.2?

number 2, think of how narrow number 1 is and thickness of oil youd be there all day getting 3ltrs in
