Gear box oil

Can somebody help me locate my gear box oil resevoir, how do I check the level and what oil is good to use if it requires filling up a bit??

Cheers

It doesn't have a reservoir, you can check the level with the car parked on a flat surface and undoing the bolt at the side of the tranny, oil level should be up to that bolt iirc.

Excuse me? I answered his questions. Perhaps if people applied a bit of common sense in future. Not specifically aimed at the author of this post but recently people seem incapable of adding the basic details

Erm, well. matt does have a point but since all manual gearboxes are somewhat similar I thought a brief explanation on how to check the oil level would be useful....and yes, tranny = transmission....not the other kind..lol

Right okay

Look for a butterly style plug on the side of the bell housing, ps the car needs to be on LEVEL ground. Now attach some pipe (garden hosepipe fits just) to a funnel now poke this pipe into the hole and put a small quantity in. Keep pulling the pipe out and checking you need to fill it til it overflows

Allow it to drain the excess and put the butterly plug back in (It might be quite tight to undo if its never been taking out so watch your fingers)

To drain youl need a 8mm square plug (most likely)
