Gear change problem

Got a 172 cup 52 plate very low millage and I'm having get change probz mainly in morning but it's in every gear apart from 1st and reverse I done gearbox oil change no diff I used 75/90 any ideas when I mean stiff it's like hitting a brick wall you can't move but of u pump clutch it dose go in

Can you get all gears okay with the engine off?

Yeah even when driving there's no gear grinding nothink like that box is fine Clucth don't slip or nothink

Sounds like the clutch to me i'm afraid

Thought that but clutch ain't slipping and butting point is low but thank you

When the engine is off it's sweet going into gear no problems that deffo clutch then

What make of oil did you use ? reason I ask is had a problem on my old clio sport also could not down change when coming to roundabouts ect , put car lube in just as bad , changed to elf and there was a instant difference ,gears were slick and no problem with cold selecting .

Yeah I used carlube 75/90 what grade of elf did u use and thanks for the reply

Yeh sounds like a clutch issue to me also.

Don't you think it could be gearbox oil then as I used cheeper stuff.

Could the clutch cable need adjustment as it is one you do you adjust your self

Auto adjusting. I expect the pedal is quite heavy too?

It's a 172 cup there is a bolt and threaded bar on the clutch cable so I'm woundering is I give it half turn to tighten it Cus there is a little bit of play in the pedal I'm woundering if some times it ain't fully engaging the Clucth what do you think.

Erm, there is no threaded bar on a clutch cable on any 172. (Well certainly shouldn't be!)

There is an adjustment nut thou ain't there

No. It's a spring loaded ratchet mech on the pedal box.

Ok I think first thing then is replace cable because there is bit of play in the pedal up down cheaper than a clutch

Lol I know well I've just made a spacer for the cable but for gearbox side so it pulls bit tighter gonna run it in a min and see what's what like that and hopefuly if not I'll stick trans elf oil in Cus I used carlube

Just put in elf 75/80 and all seems ok at min so let's see how it runs in the morning thanks dan@sjm renmatt and mickpm for the info and dan@sjm clutch pedal was still light and very responsive as it should I'm hoping now it's all sorted

Done the box oil change again used elf stuff and mint now thanks all for the info and advice
