gear knob movement

Hello everyone,

My car is 172, 2003 model.

Today I tried replacing 2 parts that as I was told by a friend suppose to make the gear feel a bit tighter and not move while in N.
The parts are :

Their parts number are: 7705010093 and 7700743133.

Now the guy who told me the parts number, and changed them in his car has a mk1 2001 Clio 172.

When I got under the car I couldn't find any place to put this part's
Here is what I saw:

I could see some other parts, but none of them matched the one's I got.

What am I missing?
Was I looking in the wrong place? Or do I need different parts?

Um no still unable to see!! is it just me lol.

When your trying to post there is a square icon scroll over and it say's insert image lol, are you using this to insert pictures??

Do you have any links from ebay that you could use as a alternative??

You're trying to put the address of the pictures straight off your hard drive. You need to upload them to an image hosting website, then get the URL from there.

tinypic.com is a good site to upload pics to.

I normally just plug the phone or camera and upload pictures to a file then use them from there.

Used photobucket and didnt like.

Those parts are under the "cube-shaped" gaitor (can be seen in the 2nd pic). There are 2 versions of the small rod, these parts will not fit if you have the newer version.

So the part i need to replace is the yellow one inside the cube gaitor?
Do you know what's its renault serial code?

You have to replace both the rubber spacer and the bush aswell (if you can but as I mentioned earlier you cannot replace them if you have the newer small rod in the car). These parts are in the cube gaitor.
If I were you I'd check (and replace if needed) the ball housing of the small rod. It's visible in your 2nd pic, it's held by the circlip. It's reference nr. is 77 00 872 205

How do i know what kind of rod do I have?
Can you tell from just looking at it or do i need to open and take a look?
By replacing the rounded housing will I be fixing the freedom in the knob movement?

You have to get the gaitor off to determine the type of the small rod. Probably it won't fix perfectly the play in the gear linkage but will reduce.
