Gear knob replacement

  BMW e46 320 Ci Sport

Hey guys ive read the previous posts on this subject and i think im gonna go with the hacksaw option. I have a new clio 1.6 new model and want to fit a new knob to it. The original is lift reverse. Can some 1 tell me where i need to cut into and what should i expect to find once i have prized it off...presumably the lift up part stays on the stick and the new knob just slips over the top of the left over metal from where the original knob was?!? Anyways i dont wanna screw it up and not be able to drive my car or something so help woul dbe very highly appreciated. Cheers lads.

You can just carefuly cut away at the rubber/plastic and after youve pealed it off youll see a hard plastic white cover. use a pair of mole grips on it and twist/pull it off.

Your replacement knob should then fit on top, the one I got had a threaded cap that had to be put on first.

Ok... my stupidity may be apparent now but i thought a hoover was a vacum cleaner?! Im getting a sparco lift reverse gear knob....so when they say its lift reverse it doesnt mean that it has the lift thing on it does it? Rocko are u suggesting cutting through the top part where the labels os with the gears and then peelin it off? After this ill be left with the white plastic thing u mentioned to pull off...once i have done that am i left with a bit of metal or nothing or what...Thanks again boys, well appreciate it.

Nope.... the label on top with the gears on just pulls out (leaver it out with a screwdriver or something).

You need to cut the knob which is actually quite a thin cover over the white one. I cut it near the base (just aove the lift up reverse ring) and it just pealed off.

Does that apply to a Mk1 Clio? do you have to really lop the top off? No chance of going back to standard I guess!

any one know if same applies to phase threes?

also can u use diffeent lifting collors? or will the original be better ?

Dont think u can change the lifting collars. We were talking about the mk3 which is the newest clio. But essentially its a clio2 mk2 cause its just had a facelift.
