gear knob

i know ive brought this up before but just before i take the plunge need 1 more bit of advice i know i have to saw/cut or pull the top off do i not mess with the lift up part of the gear knob ( the reverse bit )

im a bit dumb

Mines a Mk2 Ph1, but I reckon removal of standard knob is similar. I just whacked some mole grips on the lower part of the knob, and twisted it off, there was some white powder and that, but oh the joy of having a Sparco in place of the horrific grey plastic thing!!! : )
