Gear shift light?

When out in my car today i was coming down a nice b-road and the car had been driven sensibly (spl) for around 30mins so was all nice and warmed up, so i opened it up in 2nd gear and as i was hitting 7k a little green gear stick looking light came on i take it this means change gear lol, looked cool though lol is it a shift light mine is a 172 mk2 ph1

I always try to change gear before the shift indicator appears.

yeh its a "shift"light but most here say u should have changed by then really.. its more of a

"limiter is coming up" light.. or
"you should have changed gear by now u nut" light.. or
"i need to be a sticky on cliosport" light..
