was changing the engine oil in the car and found a black oily sludge all over the gear box and rod linkage thing. just worried in case its a leak?
what do you think?
can anyone confirm from their clio that the hole as shown in the picture is left uncovered on their gearbox?
when i looked closely at it, the hole is threaded, suggesting there should be a bolt there???
Gearbox oil doesnt stay that clean. Its goes black just like it does in the engine. It just last alot longer. Gearbox is on the other side to oil filter so dont see how changing the oil filter can cause the oil to run right along side the bottom block, onto the gearbox and then onto the linakges...
In answer to your question. The gearbox is designed to weep a little to keep the linikage lubricated. This is perfectable normal, and id personally just check the gearbox oil level each time you change your engine oil.
