Gearbox leak

  E350cdi- 182
So tonight I stripped the 182 new springs n brakes all round, I noticed there's a gearbox oil leak from the selector kinda area...? I beleve it's a seal in the box!!

New box the only option? If so what kinda time scale to get the box out?

Cheers Ross

its a common and normal thing with these boxes and personally don't worry about it unless it gets considerably worse.

I had a leak on the selector as most renaults do. I fitted the seal kit that can be fitted without stripping the box. Worked well. No more leak :)

Bought it from renault dealer....

Its a bit fiddly but goes in with gearbox in situe.

I know this is a common problem, but mine is now at the stage where I can see the spots on the my driveway and I've got a whine. I think it's leaking quite a lot now and I'll be topping up very frequently.

mgoode, do you have a link or even a part number for that kit? Has it worked for the past month since you put it on?

Well I didn't think it would be that frequent. 1 litre of gearbox oil just flowed straight out the bottom of my car in under 10 minutes. That's fucked then.

I did a gear box seal repair kit last month on a 172, it was hacking out oil. doesn't take long to fit.

Mine came from Renault. It isnt cheap for wht it is. About £30 ! BUt it works. I fitted mine while the box was out, thought it was a good investment. No leak.

Instructions are in french but if you find the manuf website i think there are some frenglish translations....

They all do it. You need the kit from Renault otherwise you're wasting your time. Even with a new box in it'll start spunking on the floor within a year
