Gearbox leaking need help

on my valver where the near side drive shaft goes into the box, two of the three bolts that hold the gator into the box have chewed their threads.

1. is this common
2. what can i do about it and does the box need to come out ?

Sounds like some one has changed the shaft or gator and then threaded the bolts when they put it back in, the bolts are steel and the box is ally so its easy for the threads to get chewed. you can get a helicoil kit or re-tap them .
