Gearbox Oil Change

  2002 Clio & 1969 Benz
Hello,

Need some help asap... I have a mk2 ph2 1.4 16v clio and need to change the gearbox oil, ie: drain the old out and fill fresh oil in there. Basically, when I was fitting my coilovers today... the driveshaft spline came out and emptied all the oil into the street. (me = not happy) but all I can see on the gearbox is a air breather hole on top and not a whole lot underneath? Can someone explain to me where I can drain the old out and how to fill the new oil? Will I need an oil pump or similar? Is it from the bottom you need to fill it? I had the RAC out but the cars too low to get on the recovery vehicle, so basically need to do this myself lol... can't be amazingly hard I'm assuming? Just need some advice on how to go about it. Also what oil do you recommend putting in there? I am just getting some generic tranny oil I think. Need to do this asap though. IE: Before monday, as I need the car to get to work! Thanks dudes.

ooops! lesson learn't, you do it once, you never do it again!

drain plug is underneath (8mm square key)

filler is on the front and is filled from above using a flexi funnel

I did it on the passenger side. Basically support the lower suspension arm, as the brakes fall down when the suspension turrets are removed and when it drops down the geometry pulls the drive shaft spline out of its cv boot and spills oil everywhere, as I found out! I did have it supported but not well enough apparently. Its a fairly fiddly job to be honest with the brake cables and such in the way of removing the turrets but, yeah... if it happens don't think its too big of a deal really.

I think it shouldn't be too much of a problem now I know how to fill up with new oil.

Yozzasport... mate, is it the same bolt that has cables going into it? (Speedo cables?) As to where to fill the oil up at the top? How far away from the plastic breather thing is it? Its to the front of the gearbox right? And do you think it will need the same amount of oil as a 172 gearbox? 3.1 LITRES? Its a 1.4 16v...

So... I've found where to let the oil out from the gearbox under the plastic cover... but where do I fill it? The guides pic is very blurry. Its important I get this done today so I can get to work tomorrow. Appreciate the help fellas.

Imagine its the same on your box as mine, so, front of the gearbox as in the side facing the front bumper, probs about half way down by like a plastic plug which you undo by hand.
