Gearbox oil...

...should my gearbox oil look grey-ish, opaque-ish and smell eggy-ish at 33k?

Just wondering, as I had to take some out yesterday... and I've never seen used 'box oil before.

Gearbox oil does smell differnt to normal oil, so thats ok imo. How olds the car?

yeap sounds normal, mineral gearoil stinks and will have a grayish tint (metal)

The car's two years old... 33k.

I topped up with 800ml of fully-synth (that's all I had available), but if mineral oil is in there as std, I guess the two won't mix correctly!!

Guess I'll have to to a proper 'box oil change next weekend. :nono:

i put castrol smx-s in mine which is fully synthetic and it made the gearshift a lot smoother

i just took my box off and got absolutely covered in this stuff, this is why i searched for this thread. to see if anyone thought it smelled, i was worried the previous owner had been jaming decomposing body parts in the gearbox i was phsycially vomiting when i smelt it! it totally clings to the back of your throat!
