gearbox or sump oil leak

I've got an oil leak coming from either the gear box gear selector, or it's the sump seal gone....

how difficult is it to removed the gear box on a 172Cup?

Its not a hard job but it's quite involved if you've never done one.

I've just been told by the mechanic i use that to remove the gear box would be around the 600 to 700 pound mark?
