Gearbox plastic wing nut - how to remove?

strange question / silly question....

Plastic style wingnut on gearbox, should this be easily removed by hand or should i be using some specific tool to remove it? Car in question is a qashqai, but i imagine the question relates to all cars as I believe they all have this type bolt.

By hand or a pair of grips to crack it off if it’s tight.
