Gearbox refitting tips

In the middle of trying to get a 172 gearbox back on and the damn thing just will not match up on the splines on the clutch easy.

Never had a problem on any other car but this one is being a right pain in the ass.

Engine is still in the car, any tips to help them mate together a bit easier??
Already greased the life out of it and still no joy

i assume its lined up 100% on the clutch?

Yeah pretty sure it is Fred, just getting it to slide in seems to be the issue. I'm thinking of fitting the housing and clutch into the gearbox first just enough so I can still get in to torque them up but enough that its ready to just slide on

Go and have a break for ten minutes.

Have a drink or something, then try again.

I spent about an hour trying to get mine on, went and ate a pizza, and had another crack, went on first time, lol.

Sure the clutch is lined up? Definitely putting the box on "straight" "lined up"

I've removed my box twice now... got it back on first time, both times?

Yeah this is my 6th box fitting and never had a problem before. I'm gonna go try a few different things
