Gearbox Replacement..

Whats the best way to go about removing the gearbox from a 172?

Im thinking remove the Subframe for most access?

I have one to do on Thursday and never done one before so unsure of the best method...

For pure accessiblity remove the subframe. However you can get away with just lowering one side, need a bit of strength to be able to jimmy it in.

I tend to go out the top with them now.

Most lower the subframe on the pass side enough to get the box out of the gap, but it's fiddly and horrible.

I remove the main coolant pipe completely and disconnect the engine loom from the body loom- gives you enough room to take it out the top.
