Gearbox whine

After changing the gearbox oil this weekend, I seem to be getting a high pitched whine noise when in gear and accelerating.

Im pretty sure I had the noise in 5th before, but seems to be lounder and in all gears, the pitch rises with the revs/speed. I have no problems selecting any gears, apart from the noise its perfect.

Im 100% sure the box was full and none has leaked so thats ruled out and I used Castrol EPX 75w-80 which seems to be recommended.

Any ideas if its terminal and should I be preparing myself for a new one?

Also, is it the same changing a gearbox on a 182 as a valver?

sounds the same as mine bud

my gearbox was fine before my trackday, and even after a good few sessions it was quiet, but then later in the day it developed a whine, and after a few more sessions they could hear me all the way around the track, like a dimented air raid siren! lmfao

but it went into gear perfectly all day

i also used castrol epx and when the noise started topped up the oil, it only needed a tiny drop to top it up so that wasn't an issue

if i were you i would start saving the pennies for a new box, im already looking, i dont hold out much hope of it lasting another trackday

This Guy,he can turn them around in a day and only changes what needs changing, all bits off the shelf.

If you call him, mention Burpspeed for a keen price.

My JB3 did 4/5 trackdays with the diff whining to f*ck, then the circlip popped at Mallory. It would probably do the same amount again without any issue I rekon if I could be bothered fixing it!

  Yozz'd up 182
I have this only in 5th though.

And only when foot is lightly on the peddle.

Goes quieter when i put my foot down more.

cheers for the recommendation Tony

i will definately be giving him a call when i remove my box, want it refurbing and the circlip sorting :)

Thanks for the recommendation Tony.

Think im going to continue to run it until it 'goes' as its still running sweet. I'll just have to make sure i've got some pennies saved for a new box :D
